The aim of the Melik Society is to advance public awareness of Anglo-Sudanese history in the period 1883-1899 and subsequently, through the restoration and preservation of the river gunboat Melik and the paddle steamer Bordein.

The immediate objectives are:

To facilitate the preservation and restoration of the remaining gunboats MELIK and BORDEIN so that they can be exhibited, maintained and demonstrated to the general public.

To generate awareness of the Sudan campaigns and to stimulate public interest in Anglo Sudanese history.

To research and publish information about the engineering aspects of the campaigns and conservation of artefacts.

To establish a database of Sudanese military history in the U.K.

To encourage goodwill and co-operation between the British and Sudanese organisations involved.
