SWA offer support and advice to women and children affected by domestic violence and abuse whether living in the community or accommodated in the refuge.
As the economic downturn and government cuts begin to bite, we increasingly need your support. Without it we are unable to go the extra mile for the women and children who need us.
The Stockport Without Abuse 'Step Ahead Fund' goes directly to women and children affected by domestic violence and abuse. It pays for a whole range of things that we could otherwise not provide.
Here are just some examples of ways the Step Ahead fund is used.
•School uniforms to help children fit into local schools £10
•Emergency food and toiletries for families if they arrive at the refuge with nothing -£5
•Provide half a days childminding costs, so mothers are able to attend appointments(court, counselling ect)
•Games, craft materials and snacks for the playroom £5 - £200
•A children’s Christmas party - £60
•Materials for a woman returning to education £15-£55
SWA also provides awareness raising and training, emotional support and advocacy and access to additional support services such as; mental health and drug and alcohol teams, health visitors, legal advice, counselling and many more.
