British charity launches aid appeal for Georgia war victims
20-08-2008

Save the Children are launching an appeal to raise $1,000,000 to help the children and their families who are suffering because of the Georgia-Russia conflict.

Over 3,000 families have suffered because of the military attack on Georgia.

Tom Vincent, the charities country director said, “We're concerned for the safety of thousands of children who have had to leave their homes and villages with their families. It is likely that some children will have been separated from their parents in the confusion and if so, these children will be particularly vulnerable and in need of support".

He also added that the main priority is to provide clean drinking water and shelter to displaced people throughout 11 sites.

Save the children has already purchased enough food for 1,600 people for a 10 period, and are planning to also provide medicine for hospitals which are running short on supplies.
