The John Simonds Trust for Education in the Countryside was started in 1985. Its objectives are to introduce young people to the countryside and the place of Agriculture in it. In 2008 we welcomed 9000 children on school trips. We also hold camps with the aim of developing qualities of Leadership, Self Confidence and Mutual Respect. We are fortunate to be able to use a 18th century farmyard with pond, a small wood, and access to the river Pang within a 900 acre sheep and arable farm.
Those who come on school trips do pay a fee but we do not charge children whose parents are on Social Security Benefits. As a result we only recover 65% of our payroll costs. We need to raise £10,000 to cover this specific expense. We feel strongly that these children are those who would gain most from their visits.
