I am the Chief Executive of the British Humanist Association, and I have pledged to have the BHA's logo tattooed on the back of my left shoulder if, and only if, this appeal raises at least £20,000 by the end of 2008. The target is £100,000 by 31 December 2008, and if the target is reached, the tattoo, in 'BHA green', will be 5 cm high - proportionally smaller for amounts between £20,000 and £99,999, and only 1cm high if only £20,000 is raised.

I quite like tattoos - on other people. But I had never thought of having one myself. I am doing this because this appeal should make a real difference to what the BHA can achieve.

We seem to be well on the way towards the £20,000 we need for a dinky little tattoo - just 1 cm high - and with your help, we'll get there.

But I want to go all out to make it as large as we can. A 5cm tattoo would be a wonderful achievement, and I am sure I would come to love it! In time.

Please give as much as you can.
