We currently have 18 permanent residents living with us (my fat fluffs) who live as a large outdoor group of 14, Max and Daisy my indoor buns, Panda who is permanent with Lucy and Buffy who is with me at the moment.
I originally had just two buns, Effie and Jess who came from a local farm. I went there to buy a hutch - which I now know was way too small - but ended up leaving with two buns which the lady thought were the same sex. Fortunately they were and after a while I found the web site www.rabbitrehome.org.uk and learnt about neutering and vaccinating and other aspects of rabbit care. I adopted another pair of buns from the RSPCA and became interested in rescue and following on from this I fostered for Jill at Honeybunnies Rescue in Leicester for a while and then decided to set up on my own.
Fat Fluffs has been awarded charity status and we are a core team of 6 trustees and more importantly bunny mad friends. Vickie is in charge of fundraising, Julia marketing and is our minutes secretary, Abi is our chair and Lucy our treasurer; Vickie, Abi and Lucy also foster for Fat Fluffs providing great mid-way sanctuary for bunnies waiting for their forever homes, they are invaluable and Sally is our secretary and works tirelessly on the admin and general running of Fat Fluffs, we would struggle without her.
We also have an amazing team of people who foster for us. Not long ago we lost one to the "failed fosters club" Binky and Miffy are now permanent residents with Helen but we currently have more people than ever fostering for us and it's such a blessing to have people willing to give their time to these buns who just need to be loved. A big "Thank You" to Sophie, Krysia, Shel, Sarah, Kerry and Joanne for everything you are doing for the buns. Vikki is currently putting our monthly newsletters together and doing an amazing job with PR as well so another big "Thank You" to her and to everyone who has given up their time to come and help clean, scrub, bunnyrun and cuddle - every minute is invaluable and greatly appreciated!
There are currently 33,000+ unwanted rabbits in rescues across the country and every rescue seems to have a never ending waiting list of bunnies to come in. We take in all the rabbits we can, as far as space allows, with the aim of ensuring they are physically and emotionally well, neutered, wormed, vaccinated and rehomed to loving forever homes. We have had a few bunnies come in that would rather eat you than their dinner and although some of these anti-social buns have been rehabilitated and found new homes those more scarred stay and are considered a permanent part of our family.
