DPPI, a small UK charity controlled by disabled parents, was established in 1993.
DPPI exists to provide awareness and support for disabled people considering parenthood, during pregnancy and as parents, and also for the service providers who support them. We’re here for all disabled parents, including those with a physical or sensory impairment, Deaf parents, parents with learning difficulties, long-term illnesses or those dealing with mental distress.
DPPI aims to build bridges: between veteran disabled parents and parents-to-be, disabled parents and professionals, and between groups doing innovative work in the field of disabled parenting. We aim to build a strong and lasting bridge across the gulf of ignorance that still exists in society about disabled people becoming or remaining parents. The essential building blocks of this bridge are the information and experience of those who have already been through pregnancy and childrearing and of those professionals who have supported parents well.
