The Alzheimer's Society Southwark Branch provides valuable local support and information to local people affected by dementia. Nationally the Alzheimers Society work to research for a cure to dementia, campaign for change, provide a national helpline and online forum.
In southwark there are estimated 1563 people living with dementia and 723 live in carers. Two in every three people with symptoms of dementia currently DO NOT receive a diagnosis. There is still much work to be done around promoting awareness of dementia in the borough and reducing the stigma around dementia both locally and nationally
The Southwark Branch provides local support for people with dementia and their carers through outreach support, information and advice, carer support groups, a memory group for people in the early stages of dementia, an Active Links befriending service, a Healthy Ageing social cafe, regular events, a drop in service and a quarterly newsletter. We work with over one hundred people with dementia each year and their carers and families
