Day 5 in and it was all going so well even some of the pains from earlier were disapearing and looking forward to crossing the border to Scotland that day. On the morning of Day 6 was the climb up Kirkstone Pass which by the top put me in the clouds went smoothly. On the decent the whether was awfull and my breaks were unfortunatly quite inaffective coming up infront of me was a slight kink in the road and some cars over the other side of the road coming up i tried to slow down as much as possible without overdoing the breaks (which you shouldnt do in the wet) and even that i could feel the back wheel starting to slide out. I then had to try and fight the bike from going down and a possible collision with the cars, but overcomensated with my stering and snaked into the wall on my side at 30+mph.
I went headfirst over the wall and there was no obvious damage to myself and rushed to look at the bike but it became apparent that i couldnt actually walk that well and once i got transported to the hospital via a friendly guys 4x4 lift down to my dads car my knee had swollen up quite badly and it was dawning that i wouldnt be able to continue (even on the old bike)
On further hospital visits since (back home) it appears i have been quite lucky and have suffered no broken bones or damaged ligaments in my knee and it seems to be just severe bruising leaving me on crutches and a course of Anti-inflamitories so the plan is to sort my Fitness out and the damage to the bike which it appears i am covered for in my insurance, and then try and sort out the other half of the trip from Kirkstone Pass to John o Groats in 5 days hopefully this might come around by the end of October otherwise it will be getting to dark in the evenings and will have to wait untill spring and will extend my donation deadline acordingly.
