The Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust was founded in 1961 by local people who had concerns over their natural environment and its future. The Trust's great strength is being the leading source of information, data, and advice about all wildlife and Biodiversity matters in Gloucestershire. It manages over 70 nature reserves (2,500 acres), educates over 3,000 children a year, has 20,000 subscribing members and over 300 regular volunteers.
The Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust vision is for a Gloucestershire rich in wildlife valued by all. Its aims are to protect wildlife for the future by creating wildlife havens, acting as wildlife champions, inspiring people and fostering sustainable living. It achieves this by:
researching, surveying and collating data on the county’s habitats and species;
promoting knowledge understanding and enjoyment of the county’s natural environment and influencing key decision makers;
taking action for wildlife species and habitats to sustain them and secure them for the future;
involving others in its work so that the people and organisations of the county play a full role in safeguarding its natural assets;
managing its resources and processes to be as effective and efficient as possible and to measure and report on its success
